The 155mm / 52 caliber 155mm / 52 Advanced Artillery System (ATAGS) tests were completed on the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR) between April 26 and May 2, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said Monday.

ATAGS is a project of the original towed artillery artillery system carried out under the DRDO mission regime as part of the Indian Army's artillery modernization program, the statement added.

Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) Pune is a DRDO nodal laboratory for the design and development of ATAGS along with other DRDO laboratories.

The development was carried out with two industrial partners, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd, with the active participation of other industries. The reliability of these two weapons is proven by firing several rounds in different zones, including explosive, intense and continuous modes. High accuracy and consistency have been established within reach and management to the highest extent, DRDO said.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Army, the DPSU and private industry on the successful completion of the ATAGS tests and cited them as a shining example of AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan.
