On morning in May 2025, amidst the rugged, high-altitude terrain of North Sikkim, a young officer of the Indian Army made a decision that would define courage for generations to come. Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, just 23 years old, laid down his life while saving a fellow soldier from being swept away by a glacial river.

This is not just a story of death. It is a story of duty, courage, and ultimate selflessness – one that deserves to be remembered, shared, and honored by every Indian.

🏔️ The Fateful Day in Sikkim

On May 22, 2025, a Route Opening Patrol (ROP) was being conducted by the Sikkim Scouts Regiment near Tactical Operating Base (TOB) Kerang, North Sikkim. The troops had to cross a narrow log bridge over a mountain stream swollen by glacial melt.

Suddenly, Agniveer Stephan Subba slipped and was swept into the freezing current.

Lt. Shashank Tiwari, without hesitation, jumped into the river alongside Naik Pukar Katel. Together, they pulled Agniveer Subba to safety.

But in that brave act, Lt. Tiwari was swept away by the current. His body was found 800 meters downstream.
